4am, Day 3
Needless to say, I was so royally perturbed I got very little sleep last night. And now I am up before the crack of dawn, ready to move our sh..ahem, stuff to room 1257 and prepare for a better day!!
Mission accomplished within just a few minutes (we pack light). Keys to the old room are returned, management is very apologetic, Clare is appeased, and Jerry is ready to Go and Play!
We were at breakfast by 7am, and on a bus before 8. Today we are going to try to get to RIO (at the time, we didn't know that we could transfer from the Boulevard bus to one that would take us off the Strip, so we geared ourselves up for a long walk). We got off at Flamingo Road, and began the hike. Takin' it slow, today!
About an hour later we arrived on the West Coast (so it seemed)
Actually, we just crossed the bridge over the highway to the area that encompassed The Rio, Gold Coast and The Palms. Despite the long trek, we found ourselves in much better condition than we expected...heck, we were surprisingly energized! We spent some time playing the slots at Rio (jd did ok, I had no luck), walked across the street to Gold Coast (NO luck for either of us) and crossed again to The Palms. We played here for quite a while, had lunch at their Food Court, and played some more before losing our $20.00. By this time, I was feeling pretty peaked (due to lack of sleep) and begged Jerry to take me back to our hotel so I could have a nap.
A couple hours of sleep does wonders. We went downstairs, had a margarita (natch!) and played at Circus, Circus for about half an hour, then walked across the street to the Riviera.
Their machines weren't paying off at all, so we decided to hop a bus (again) to go to The Mirage to see the Volcano. But first, Jerry needed to run up to our room to get a jacket, because it's getting a tad chilly. I wait for him in front of "Viva McDonald's" (no lie...):
My phone rings. Jerry. He can't get into the room, key won't work. OK, you're joking, right? No, no joke. Back to the room to try my key, which just worked a few hours ago, and no go.
Did I say ENRAGED yesterday??? Well, I am now in "Heads Will Roll" mode.
BACK to the front desk, yet again.
It appears that when we 'left' room 1260, they thought we had checked out, and so cancelled the 2nd room as well. I am sure that, if Jerry had let me handle it, we would have been forcibly ejected from the lobby, but he once again kept a cool head and was able to get our room back AND get the Upgrade Fee waived!!! This was actually the biggest "Win" of the week!
So...let's get your jacket, and go to the Volcano!
This was pretty cool! We were standing in front of 'Casino Royale', across the Boulevard (a 6 lane thoroughfare) from the thing, and could still feel the heat from the explosions. Very impressive!
When the show was over, we went into Casino Royale, and played on our $20.00 for almost 3 hours. By far the longest run on a $20 bill to date.

Tomorrow: A '9 Casino' Day
Glad to hear they waived the upgrade fee. That was the least they could do. Probably should have offered you a free meal or two, also!
ReplyDeleteYou walked to RIO from The Strip? Good hike! We did somewhat the same, in reverse order, on our last trip. We cabbed from Flamingo (our hotel) to Gold Coast, but decided to walk back to New York New York from there. It was damn hot - 104 or 105 - and I felt like I was on the Bataan Death March. I never enjoyed air conditioning so much in my life than when we went inside New York New York after that "stroll".
