5pm --- hop on the bus and head Downtown (sometimes called Old Town) now better known as simply the "Freemont Street Experience", because of the shows they have every evening. Here is what Freemont Street looks like during the day:
The canopy over the street plays a pivotal part in the Freemont Street Experience, as you will soon see. We were told that it has more than 2.5 million lights that bring the show to life.
But, it's still too early, so jd and I head into Binion's Casino, home of the 99cent Margarita. Drinkin' and gamblin' --- that is the mantra here. As in all parts of Las Vegas, public drinking is, if not encouraged, at least tolerated. EVERYbody on the street has a drink in their hand, many of them in souvenir glasses. The 99cent Margaritas in their plain ole plastic cups go down real good, too!
We played $20.00 in each of the casinos on Freemont Street, (Golden Nugget, Binion's, 4 Queens, and Freemont Casino) with NO LUCK in any of them. This is a change from our last trip, as we both remember doing better downtown than on The Strip 25 years ago.
ANYway, on to the show.
The Freemont Street Experience is a light show set to music in the canopy over the street. The first song of the evening was "Bye Bye Miss American Pie". This is JUST A TASTE of what the 'Experience' is like:
I apologize that the video is sideways (the 'bottom' is on the right side) ...I keep forgetting that I can't rotate the things, and invariably hold my Tablet in the wrong position. But you get the idea, right?

There are a lot of characters, here. We saw Darth Vader, Tweety Bird, and SpongeBob, to name just a few. Many scantily-clad 'ladies' and scantily-clad Spring-breakers, too. All manner of drunken partiers, and passed-out over-indulgers. There was a 'procession', we're guessing it was a church group, re-enacting the Passion of Christ.
And there are quite literally dozens of "Living Statues". Here is one:
These kids are good! This one we stared at for a full minute before we saw any movement at all.
All-in-all, it was a true Experience, and we enjoyed it thoroughly.
