A Postcard from Texas

Hello, my Friend!

We arrived (safely) at The Dunn-Gauger Family Compound at Lake Kiowa, Texas late on April 2.

Late.

We should have landed at 5pm, and in actuality bounced along the tarmac (many thanks to 'Captain Kangaroo') at Dallas Love Field at bout 9:30 pm.   And so began our vacation!

It all started with an early morning phone call - a canned message from Southwest Airlines - informing us that our flight had been cancelled. Now, JD and I don't watch a lot of TV, and "The News" in particular holds no joy for us, so we were blissfully unaware that Southwest was having difficulties with the Sunroofs that are installed on some of their aircraft (apparently they open at random during certain flights.)

Our plane was one of the 81 jets affected by the recall.

We scrambled around, and tangled with Southwest's agents for a couple of hours trying to get seats on another plane...all the time harboring secret dread that we might meet our maker before the day was over...and finally boarded a plane that made more stops than the schoolbus I got stuck behind last week.

Hell, we landed at and took off from cities I've never heard of before!

And, between noon and nine-thirty, we were treated to four bags of peanuts and four complimentary half-cups of fruit juice, EACH!!!

I love air travel!

xoxoxo, clare
