Forty-one years ago, today, I married the ideal (as it turns out) man for me.
I say "as it turns out" because, as every person who has ever been married knows, no matter HOW SURE you are when you're saying those vows, are you, REALLY??? And once the honeymoon is over, and life throws everything it has at you, the doubts set in big time.
But, if you marry your best friend, you learn, together, to ride it out...to patch it up, to start fresh every day.
Then suddenly, half-a-lifetime has passed, and you realize that, even though each one of those days may not have been perfect, their sum IS. And even though you know there are challenges yet to come, the peace of knowing that you're gonna meet them together is the best feeling in the world.
...doesn't get much happier than that.
